"Extremely well produced, performed and mixed. Obviously passionate about the medium and exhibited very high production values. We absolutely applaud the sentiment with which they have set up the Bunbury Banter Theatre Co"
Sam Steele - head of programmes (E4 Radio) and Jo Meek - Senior Radio Producer (All Out Productions)
Listen to our
plays on-air and Online...
In order to realize Bunbanter’s main aim of "making drama accessible to all", we specialize in working with new writers to make series of audio drama, produced in repertory and aired both online and on local, national and international radio.
Inspired by the morality of folk and fairy tales of old, Bunbanter radio plays are like no other!
Each short play within in a genre-defined series has the same strong narrative running through it, and they all have the unique, quirky Bunbanter style. Although our radio plays are child-friendly, they are predominantly produced for adults, so they can sometimes be dark, unpredictable and weird. Our tales are all new writing, promoting the mix of our storytelling heritage with the new society of today.
From humble beginnings, Bunbanter has produced over seventy new radio plays, supporting undiscovered talent with every series. As a company, we continually strive to improve our practices and develop our education programmes, and in 2008 our radio plays were nominated for a Channel 4 Talent Award.
Our radio plays air on various radio stations: for current details please see the RADIO STATIONS tab. Alternatively you can hear clips on the LISTEN NOW tab.
Upcoming Series
Series Eight is a return to the very popular film noir genre, and is titled Spies & Deceit. With double crosses, smoking guns and mung beans, this series twists the ideas behind the genre and presents them in a whole new light! Listen to car chases, follow red herrings and hear the occasional hit! This series is gonna take you well away from home...
Series Nine is a blast from the past, taking you to war-torn stories from bygone years as well as the modern battlefield. Expect a lump to form in your throat while listening to these plays. This series is following up on our much-loved venture into this genre previously, and is shaping up to be another fine voyage into war and its affect on others.
Series Ten: horror! Need I say more? You will hear screams of terror, and truly scary stories that will leave you shaking under the sheets. From beasts to ghosts, you will not want to come out from behind the sofa: this is a classic series of pure Bunbanter.
Writers...
Bunbury Banter supports new writing and believe it to be vital to the future of the industry. We are always interested in hearing from new writers: prior experience is therefore not mandatory, but the ability to tell a hell of a story is absolutely essential! We have a team of readers who work with our writers to produce the ultimate bunbanter radio plays from their scripts. We also send out script reports when working with new writing, as we have found they can be extremely helpful to developing writers.
If you would like to be considered, or to receive further details, please contact us at writing@bunbanter.com.
"The stage of radio is darkness and silence, the darkness of the listener's skull. On it the dramatist can bring anyone or anything without the trouble and expense of a scenic artist. .... The process of building it is simple; the words are spoken, and we become designers, producers, scene shifters, and the theatre itself"- Frances Gray
