Private Drama Tuition

Private Drama Tuition

We provide one-to-one drama tuition sessions to students, both in-school and at home, across the UK.

These sessions follow the LAMDA examinations framework, which give multiple benefits including UCAS points.

Our approach is rooted in the importance of knowledge, practice and technique – focusing on inspiration, imagination and confidence to help you to build on the skills you already have, even if you don’t know you have them!

What is LAMDA?

The London academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is the oldest drama school in the United Kingdom. LAMDA began offering speech examinations to the public in the 1880s. Since then, these examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication.

In addition to being the largest Speech and Drama Awarding Body in the United Kingdom, LAMDA Examinations have a reputation for excellence across Europe, the Far East, Africa and the United States.

LAMDA Examinations are accredited as an Awarding Body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England, and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales (ACCAC) and Northern Ireland (CEA).

The lessons and examination itself provide candidates with an opportunity to:

  • Measure progress against an internationally applied standard
  • Build self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Improve sight reading skills.
  • Receive critical appraisal and guidance for future growth
  • Refine technical artistry and talent
  • Acquire skill certification and receive a record of personal achievement
  • Foster an appreciation of literature and drama
  • Improve standards in communication through spoken word
  • Provides a framework in which individual talent can grow
  • Gain UCAS points (at higher levels)

More information about our PDT sessions

In a Private Drama lesson, a student will receive individual and dedicated attention concentrating on their specific needs and tailored around their schedule. You might work on a speech or a poem, explore the various methods of practice, examine the staging/presentation and discuss the background, theatre practitioners and theory behind the work undertaken.

During the course of the lessons a student’s performance technique and public speaking skills will be developed, as well as their theatrical understanding, acting and presenting skills. We also look to improve student’s breath technique, posture, diction and general literacy and communication skills.

We enter students for LAMDA examinations as they are a medium to gain further experience and receive certificates and UCAS points (at higher grades) but we also encourage many of our students to perform publicly rather than just taking private exams; this may be by entering local Speech and Drama Festivals or taking part in one of our ‘LAMDA Evenings’. That said, not all of our students decide they want to take the examinations or show their work and so we do not force anybody to take part as, from our experience over the years, every learner is different and some are happy to work towards the other benefits or take the lessons just for confidence-boosting fun!

We also have Group Drama Classes available, which enable groups of up to 6 to also take part in LAMDA examinations.

Example School – Grey Court, Ham, TW10.
We began teaching our private drama lessons at Grey Court School in 2008, and since then we have worked with, developed and successfully developed many students. We have an extremely high ratio of our students passing the LAMDA examinations and continue to enrol new students each term.
